The Abattoir Committee of the .Ashburton Borough Council, accompanied by the Mayor (Mr Robert Galbraith), the Town Clerk (Mr A. McClure), and Messrs A. Wilkie and E. J. Cox, local butchers, to-day paid a visit'of inspection to the Oamaru Municipal Abattoirs. The Oamaru Borough Council met the visitors at Oamaru station and conducted them over the abattoir building. An unusual case, the first of its kind heard in Southland, was before Mr Hutchison, S.M., yesterday, at Invercargill. Arthur M. Plank, hotelkeeper, was charged with having under his control on June 26 a bottle with a label affixed thereon, alid without .destroying such label, making use of the bottle for the purpose of. ..bottling liquor (whisky) f or: sale,: contrary to Section 210 of the Licensing Act. The analyst's report showed that the liquor was found to be of the standard required by the Sale of Food, and Drugs Act, but liquor from a similar unopened hottle contained less caramel than was contained in the whisky from the opened bottle.
