LAND VALUES LEAGUE
THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE. (Pei Press Association). : WELLINGTON, August 3. The Dominion Conference of the Land Values League concluded this ; morning. The '' fighting platform "" of the league was amended to read as follows :— i (1) Assessment of all rates on unini- ' proved values. I (2) The land tax to bo increased by another penny in the £, with no exemption for the additional penny, the revenue so raised to be applied to the I reduction of Customs duties on the ! necessaries of life and coupled with a | reduction of railway freights and fares. '.(3) The adoption of effective voting and proportional representation for all elections. : The national executivo, with headquarters at Auckland for 1915-16, was constituted as follows:-—President, the Hon. George Fowlds; vice-presidents, Mr CD, McLean (Auckland), Mr N P. J, O'Regan (Wellington), Mr C. H. Nightingale (Cliristchurch), and a Du£edin member to be selected by -'the. branch; secretary, and'; treasurer, Mr G. ,M. Eowldsy ... ./.;: ... •. ,-^.U , | . A resolution was passed directing at-; jtention to the failure of:the purchasing' j of land for closer^ settlement, under the i Land for Settlement .Act, arid pointing tout that according to: the latest New ! Zealand Year Book £6,936,613 was ex- | ponded in tho; acquisition of estates j with incidental* expenses amounting to j £581,832, while the selectors on the j lands so acquired numbered only 5529, J and 96,365 acres of the purchased land were undisposed of.
