'" . i ROME, August 2. The Au&'trians have taken up a second line of defence east of Gradisca and Monfalcone. The Italians are now able to continue the ascent of the Car&o plateau, supported by artillery placed on Monte Seibasi and Monte St. ■ Michael. The la tests Austrian losses have been enormous. '
MILAN, August 2. The Italians have made further progress, chiefly in the Carso .region. Austrian cotinter-attacks are '! subsiding, and .the enemy is busy - preparing trenches rearward of his abandoned positidns. He appears 'to -be determined on a fresh stand upon,activities eastward of Vallone.
