SEMI-OFFICIAL STATEMENT
" DEEP REASONS " DEMAND WITHDRAWAL.
PETROGRAD, August 2. Warsaw has not yet been evacuated. The deliberation of the withdrawal is an encouraging feature of the situation.- ■.'■■'• * •' ■■-.'■
A semi-official communique says: " Strategically, the situation is unchanged. The -Russian-.front nearest Warsaw is wholly unshaken. Tlip enemy's attack* oast of Rozan have boon' unsuccessful, even, at the most active points. Tho other front affect-, ing Wnisnw,, the- wost and. south-west, is the arena of .stubborn conflicts. The Russians expelled the Germans from woods on the right brink of the Vistula. Deop reasons demand our withdrawal, which will be temporary, ami hot pro-, longed. Tlie fact that tho enemy has not "obstructed our withdfaw'al /sliows how his' strength is being redtieied through, exhaustion to impotence. Our retirement, not being, iinder pressure, shows that the 'initiative is on our I side."
