WELLINGTON,^ August 1. Two fcram: accidents- occurred Aiu the city on ;Saturday night. ' The victim of the first of these, which ended fatally, was ft man jabpufc: 50 'years "of age, and apparently a labourer^ Ho was hit; by a tram-car hear' the 'Courtenay Place stop, about 8.30 p.m., and was thrown on to his back, fie was taken to the hospital with a fractured skull, and v was operated upon. He died at ,2 o'clock this morning. The lias not yet been identified. The second accident also occurred in Courtenay Place. Trooper William Chambers, from the Waikanae Camp, was knocked down by a tram-car and sustained a slight concussion. He was taken to the hospital, where he is progressing favourably. WELLINGTON, August 2. A Maori woman named Ngaiono Ranginui, who lived 14 miles from Manakau, was fatally burnt last Monday through ; her accidentally catcliing fire. HOKITIKA, August 2. When cleaning a rifle at Koiterangi, on Sunday evening, Charles Cropp, aged 19, was shot in the head, the bullet entering the point of the chin. The sufferer was brought to the Westland Hospital. The bullet has not yet been extracted, and Cropp's condition is serious.
