AN AUSTRIAN REPORT.

AMSTERDAM, July 31

An Austrian official message confirms the report, that the Russians are retreating on the Vistula-Bug front, and states that they are devastating farm crops as they go. The pursuit is proceeding. Superior Russian forces compelled the defenders of the Sokal bridge-head to withdraw on their southern front.

VIENNA, August 1

An official communique says:—"The Archduke Joseph's forces occupied Lublin. His left wing has crossed the Bysistra and is pursuing the Russians. The Germans are advancing clown the Vieprz, and approaching Cholin from the south-west. The enemy is attempting renewed resistance at several points in previously prepared positions, but is being attacked everywhere. The Germans north-west of Ivangorod advanced to the south bank of the Vistula and repulsed violent Russian attacks, the Russians suffering severely."
