GERMAN SUCCESS EAST OF YPRES.

LONDON, July 31. Sir John French reports ' that the enemy began on Friday morning a bombardment of our positions north and south of Hooge, followed by an attack with name projectors, chiefly against our recently-captured trenches at Hoogo. They succeeded in penetrating our first lino of trenches on a five, hundred yards' front. Fighting is in progress.
