WHEAT STATISTICS.
ESTIMATES AND ACTUAL YIELDS
Under the heading of "Wheat,"the following appears m the "Monthly Abstract or Statistics" for July, issued by tho < Government statistician: —
In the previous issue reference was made to tne diit'erenoe in the total yield as shown by the returns collected from the threshing-mill owners and from farmers.. Applying the average yield per acre (28.94) to tho total area sown, as. re turned by farmers, gives a total yield of 5,486,0b'9 bushels, but according to the threshing returns received to date, July 20, the actual quantity of wlieat'threshed was 6,581,----629 bushels. ~
As previously stated, steps are- being taken to ascertain the cause of the difference, and, so far, it is found that no returns of areas were furnished in a number of cases by farmers on whose behalf grain lias been threshed. This indicates that the threshings are reliable and that the total area returned is considerably below the actual area which was under wheat.
A census of stocks of wheat, oats, and flour in the Dominion was taken on June 30 last, but the final results are not available-, in time for inclusion in this issue.
