WELLINGTON/ July 29, .;• Dr. Thaeker was examined before the

Irentham Camp .■-Commission to-day.. He contended that the military, authorities had previously been warned of the possibility of an epidemic by experience at Christchurch. They knew Trentham was likely to bo muddy, and also that there would bo a shortage of tents; but they did not get material for huts on , the ground in dry weather, and eventually had to line damp timber. No '■ ' provision wa« made for roading. Trentham was originally a lake. His Honour: "That does not accord with a geologist's, report which we have.", , ' '■ , ' Dr. Thaeker urged that the formation of the ground proved that there had been a lake there at one -time.' As far back as October and November witness had troopers from Trentham calling on him at Christchurch, suffering from septic throats. :• '
