WELLINGTON, July 30
A remit from Auckland in favour of preferential trade within the Empire and with our Allies, while th-ey remain so, was discussed at the Farmers' Union (to-day.
One speaker expressed the opinion that the best way people could show their patriotism was 'by buying only British goods, while another speaker urged that steps should be taken to teach patriotism in the schools. It was pointed out by the Southland delegate that if Germany was crushed commercially, the Allies could not got their indemnity,from her. -, . Another delegate told the conference that a mer/ihant had said to him:"Lonk here. Three months after the 1 .war '.is over, people will forget all. about it and "want German goods, because they are cheap." Eventualy tho conference passed a' resolution expressing tho opinion that Parliament should take further steps to give preference to British-made goods, and that tho Union, through', its branches, should foster trade w.'fchin the Empire. , ":.'■
