PROPOSAL FOR REFERENDUM \ REJECTED.

•■ SYDNEY, July 28. • In the Assembly Mr A; C. Carraichael moved his motion in favour of a referendum on the'question of curtailing the hours for the sale of liquor. Ho said that he took this action on the ground only of national economy and limiting the extravagance, of the public.

Tho motion was negatived by 25 to 17.
