ADMIRAL JELLICOE AND NEW ZEALAND.
CAPTAIN HALSEY'S NEW POST
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
LONDON. June 23
The following interesting letter has been sent by Sir John Jellicoe to the Hon. T. Mackenzie:—
"H.M.S. Iron Duke, "June 6, 1915
"Dear Mr Mackenzie, —Your presence at the annual meeting of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society on May 10 is mv excuse for this" letter.
"I cannot but feel a great interest in the work of the Society, seeing what great service is being performed for the Empire by the officers and men of the mercantile marine during the present war, and I know quite well that your efforts were largely responsible, for adding a considerable sum of money to the funds of the Society.
" I fool it a great honour to write to you as representing New Zealand, as tho recent work of the New Zealanders in the GallipoK Peninsula, and their magnificent courage and tenacity, has filled us with feelings of the deepest admiration.
" You may be interested to learn that Captain Halsey, of the New Zealand, is about to jain my staff. I feel I am depriving the ' gift ship' of a most valuable officer, but I hope, and believe that his successor will maintain the high standard of efficiency of the ship.—Yours very truly, " (Signed) J. JELLICOE."
