Christchurch Season Opens
The Canterbury Rugby Union's Senior Competition was opened at Lancaster Park on Saturday afternoon. The weather was fine, overhead, but a.cold easterly:, blew.' The, 'grounds/ were : in remarkably good condition for this time of tlie year. In conjunction-with the football, the Crowning Ceremony of Nurse Maude as Queen of the Carnival was repeated./ The gatei receipts amounted-toabout £100, half of which goes to the Belgium Fund. The majority of the teams" playing on Saturday comprised a mixture of old players and colts. Details:— Linwood 8 v. Merivale 8. Christchurch 16 v. Albion 0. University 17 v Old Boys 6.
