ELECTION NOTICES. LYTTELTON HARBOUR BOARD ELECTION: TO THE ELECTORS. T ADIES AND GENTLEMEN*— As you will have noticed from my previous advertisements A have again offered my services for re-election as a Member of the Lyttelton-' Harbour Board. You will no doubfc remember that I have taken a very active part in connection with the proposed step 1 to connect Christchurch by a direct waterway with the sea. Without any egotism, I can claim that I have successfully for the time being frustrated this rash step, and saved this 'large and important agricultural district from being forced into a huge expenditure which would have pressed very hard indeed upon our agricultural and pastoral industries, inasmuch, as again a hnge sum to pay the annual interest on the cost of constructing the Canal would have had to be provided by a Special Rate. The Canal question is by no means dead; it was only lying dormant, due to a compact entered into between all the late members of the Harbour Board, viz. : "That the, report of the Commissioners set up in October, 1911, to' investigate and report on the soundness or otherwise of the findings in' the Majority and Minority Reports of the Special Committee appointed by the Lyttelton Harbour Board, etc., SHOULD BE FINAL SO FAR AS THIS BOARD AS. AT PRESENT CONSTITUTED IS CONCERNED." Now, a fresh Election is taking place, and the compact above referred to has como to an end.' It therefore behoves this District to .elect as its representatives on the Board men who will continue to carefully watch the Canal Question,, -and who are fully conversant with its past history. If you consider me worthy, of that Trust, kindly record your Vote' in my favour -on WEDNESDAY-, tne 28th of April.' , ; Yours Truly, 4 334 - HUGO FRIEDLANDER.
