■'.■ , SYDNEY--; April 22. . .Tbo report, of the- Comptroller-Gen-eral of Police for 1914 shows that, sexciiudiiiginebriates, 12,485 convicted and ■unconvicted persons were received -intq the State gaols, the total including 2185 females. These figures show an increase of 632 compared with tuose of 1913. The percentage per 100,000 of t'iio population , was 669 as compared with.97o in 1904. ■■'--■ The Comptroller-General emphasises the fact that very few tradesmen are received into the gaols, and says that possibly this indicates that inability to obtain and keep'remunerative .employment is a potent factor, in the cause of crime.- - ,/. ..
