GENERAL JOFFRE'S DEMANDS.

The British used 6000 kilogrammes of dynamite to blow up Mont St. Eloi. It is ■'stated that 70,000,000 rifle cartridges are used up daily, as well as : 7,000,000 cartridges for the machine guns. . The Franco-British forces at the ■ battle of the Marne fired ISO,OOO shells in one day. General Joffrc informed the French Government ■ in November that ho would be unable to commence to drive out tho Germans until he had a steady supply of 200,000 shells daily, and this supply was promised for May 1.
