INQUEST.

An inquest was held at the Hospital to-day,' before Mr V. G. Day, .District Coroner, touching the death of William McAllister, who died at the hospital on Wednesday as the result of being kicked by a horse. Evidence was given by George McAllister, deceased's son, that deceased was 61 years of age. Witness had driven home with deceased on the night of the accident. Deceased had said that he had been kicked in the stomach by the horse they were driving. Deceased had been catching the horse when he was kicked. When they got home deceased went to bed within half an hour;. He would not allow anything to be done, and objected -to a doctor being sent for. Witness went to work about 5.30 next morning without seeing deceased, and had been called in about 12 o'clock by Dr. W. J. Mullin to try and influence deceased to undergo an operation, as he objected to doing so. Deceased had"'afterwards consented to undergo the operation, when he had hem removed to the. hospital.

Samuel Cunliffe denosed to seeing noised, after he had been kicked, trying to eatcli the. horse. Deceased h;id told witness that he had ,^been kicked in the stomach by the horse. Witness had helped .him catch the horse, and decWsed had walked about the paddock 'while"doing "so. Charles Edmund Russel Rendle, medical practitioner, stated that derensod hnd received some grave interim! injury which necessitated, an nfcwation. Upon operating, witness -Xvbt discovered « state of general !"~rtiom'+ip m docoased's stomach. Deceased had not been able to stand further examination, and had died almost immediately. A verdict was returned that deceased died from peritonitis caused by injuries received T»y the kick of a horse.
