A PALME.RSTON PROPOSAL. 'PALMERSTON # N._, December 16. " Tho basic principle of the New Zealand citizen army is no class distinctions," was the reply given by the Hon. James Allen to a local deputation, which desired that ex-public school boys should be allowed to form
one regiment, probably of 400 men, for service at the front.
The Minister said he would like, however, to encourage the men in any way possible, and suggested the forming of platoons and companies. At present he could not say whether this was necessary. The deputation also suggested the setting up of a concentration camp to hold recruits not immediately needed. Mr Allen said the Department was against taking men away from industries, until required. . He would siibmit the matter to Colonel Robin.
