Ernest Enhes was. lined 40s and costs for exceeding the speed limit over the Ashburton Traffic Bridge. W. B. Escourt for a similar offence, was fined 40s and costs. For riding a motor cycle too fast within the Borough, W. J. Griffith was fined 20s and casts. C. A. Holmes pleaded not guilty to exceeding the speed limit in a motor car in East Street. Ho was convicted' and discharged. •■ Percy Prebble, whose case was formerly dismissed on a quibble over dates, was fi»cd 20s and costs. Defendant complained of being brought up again through the incompetence of the Inspector, but the Magistrate cut him short with a curt sentence; "It was your own fault, you should have. corrected the Inspector last time." Civil Business. Henry Stephenson (Mr'lt. Kennedy) proceeded against o*. Osborne and i<anny Qsbome (Mr H, C Orbell) for £60, said to be owing as interest on a promissory note. ,(x. Osborne had previously had a judgment against him for £20, and ho confessed to the £-±v. Judgment in his case was for plaintiff > for the £40, with costs. In. the cast? against Fanny Osborne, plaintiff was non-suited on the technicality that notice of dishonour of the promissory note. had not , been served her within the time prescribed by the law. Walter Mann.was ordered to pay D. Miller and Co, the sum of £4 17s 6d forthwith, in default seven days' imprisonment. >w . , Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following undefended cases:—G. Meddins v. H. E. Vincent £1 12s 2d, with 'cpste ss; William Begg v. Mrs Hay Smith £4 10s 6d, with costs 21s >6d; D. H. Bahlberg v. H. Taylor 18s, with costs ss; Mitchell and Turner v. Hay Smith £16 9s Bd, with costs 16s; John; Orr and Co. v. Hay Smith, £2 4s, with .costs 6s.
