ASHBURTON CATHOLIC CLUB.

The, annual re-union of members of the Ashburton Catholic Club took place last evening when a banquet was held. The attendance was large, and the president (Mr J. A. Lennon) occupied the chair. The following toast list was gone through:—"The Pope and King"; " Kindred Societies," proposed by Mr F. K. Cooper and re-, sponded to by Messrs F. Brophy (Hibernian. Society) and Mr T. Purcell (Tennis Club); "The Clergy," on the call of Mr S. Madden and acknowledged by the Rev. Father J. J. O'Donnell; "Army and Nayy," on the Rev. Father O'Donnell's initiative and replied to by Mr T. M. Brophy; " Ireland —A Nation," proposed by Mr D. McDonnell; "Past Presidents," proposed by the president and acknowledged by 'Messrs W. J. Cunningham and D. McDonnell; " The Press," proposed by Mr E. McSherry, and replied to by Mr J. A. Sheridan; "The Ladies," on the initiative of Mr R. Nealon, senior, and responded to by Mr V. Madden; "The President," proposed by Mr M. -T. Burgess. The following contributed to a musical programme":—Songs, Miss Hicks, Messrs D. .L McDonald, W. J. Cunningham, V. Madden. M. J. Burgess, T. M.

Brophy; recitations-, Mr F. K. Cooper and Mr J. A. Lennon. ' Mrs D. Crow played the accompaniments. The singing of the National Anthem brought the proceedings to' a successful conclusion.
