LULL IN OPERATIONS.
PENDING A x GENERAL, AD VANCE.
'.', LONDON* October 12. The [Ve^s Bureau states: —A communication from French headquarters mentions a hill in operations on our immediate front,- ponding a. general advance at Arms. The Germans are wel] supplied with artillery.. Their at-' tacks were particularly violent on Tuesday and Wednesday.'but they met with no\success. The only place where - they gained ground was at Roye, where the gains were not worth a- tithe of the
cost in men and 'material. Towns on the battle line now are scenes of black destruction and wreck. Albert is non-existent, and Douai is half btirriecT down.
