WELLINGTON COUNCIL'S CONFERENCE.
WANGANXJI, May 28. ' The Wellington Provincial Council of the New Zealand Farmers' Union 1 passed the following remits.:-—.' That the Government be iirged to make it compulsory on vendors of chemical manures and calf food to include in every bag a guaranteed analysis, and that the Government be requested to analyse and brand all shipments of manures and basic slag as be-, ing up to the'stndard. ; That in view of . the proved efficiency of crushed papa to. clay- land in Rangitikei, the Departments of Agriculture be asked to make jextensive; experiments with the same.' : r /That the attention of the Dominion Executive be drawn to the large increase by the shipping companies in freights of the staple products. One speaker thought the farmers were being given a poor return by the shipping companies, whom they assisted during the strike. That the jury system be altered, so that a man who served as a juryman should bo< exempt for 12 months. That the Government be asked to do away with the Maori registration of dogs, in order to abate sheepworrying.
That motor-drivers be licensed by' the Government. 1' That the Government be asked to reduce the quarantine expenses on pigs imported from Australia. Mr T. Moss,. of Eketahuna, was elected president, and Mr G. L. Mar-shall'vice-presiden t. The other officers wore all re-elected, with the exception ' that Mr J. G. Wilson, who declined reI nomination for the presidency, was appointed to the executive in place of Mr John Morrison, of Halcomh-s.
