ASHBURTON TEMPERANCE BAND.
j The Ashbur ton Temperance Brass Band hold an honorary members'- evenin the Masonic Hall last, evening Mr F. Curtis (vice-president) occupied the chair, and. about 200 persons were present. Vocal solos were contributed by Mi's H. J. Chapman, Miss Watson, Messrs H. J. Chapman, A. Tait, and W. Crum. A small orchestral party gave a couple of items, and Mr E. J, Hume rendered a 'cello solo. A special feature of the evening were the selections playd by a' junior band, a company of 14 young lads, who, for some time past, have received tuition from the bandmaster (Mr S. B. Dennis). Their cont tributions were a credit, both to them- \ selves and to their insructor, and augured well for the future of the band. The full band also played several .selections. Various competitions Were held i and the winners were Miss Rapley and
\ Mr W. H. Amos, i The accompaniments played by Mrs R. Frizzelle and <Mr D. Gillies." Supper was partaken Jof previous to the singing of " Auld .■Lang Syne."
