LINER'S VAGARIES.
DAMAGE IN NEW YORK HARBOUR. NEW YORK, May 27. The steamer Vaterland, th© Ham-burg-Amei-ika Company's new 56,000 ton liner, when leaving New York, overturned a coal barge and dragged !two tugboats from their berths when backing out, and nearly crashed into two large passenger steamers. Then she swung towards the pier, j and her screws churning sucked the water out from it, causing the hawsers j of the two steamers to snap, forcing th«m against the bulkheads, and smashing' their own rails, also the pier rails. The'Vatei land proceeded en her voyage, after inflicting damage amounting to £6000.
