CONCESSIONS MADE.
(Pei- Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, May 15. Certain conc&ssions whic hhave recently been made under the authority of the Public 'Service Commissioners to employees in several State Departments were explained by the Hon: R. H. Rhodes to-day, in so far as they relate to the departments under his control. The maximum salaries of mental hospital male attendants have been raised, and it: also has been decided, that the emoluments (such as house and lodging allowances) of officers of the Department in the general and clerical divisions who are drawing salaries of £300 a,year or less shall be paid as an addition to salary, in order that they may be included in the computation for purposes of superannuation. This addition will be refunded by the officers .concerned, and credited to the maintenance account. This, Mr Rhodes remarked, would give officers increased superannuation benefits, and enable them to draw considerably increased pensions. He believed that it would give general satisfaction, and would remove a ■ long-standing grieyajnee. A similar arrar gem ant had .been made'as regarded the officers of the Tourist., Department. In regard to the Post:Office'employees, the maximum salary of linesmen and post office messengers had beeii increased from £170 to £180 ncr anuum, and other officials would have their maximum salaries raised from £220 to £230 per
annum
