In the final attack on Tampico the rebel infantry entered the streets and, covered by six-inch guns, drove the Federals down the centre of the town, slaughtering aright 'arid left. None were given quarter. .. .'.,;.'
Large numbers were forced into the river, where many perished. The prisoners captured were immediately hanged.
