TIMARU, May 15

The wheat market, has boon again active this week in Timaru,- 1 a good many lines having been secured by (millers, who are open to buy all really prime lines which are offering at reasonable prices. Prime Velvet is selling at 4s ■ per bushel, delivered Timaru, and up to 4s Id has been paid for extra primo stuff. Bast quality Red Chaff is fetching 3s lOd to 3s lid, while Tuscan is commanding 3s lOd and 3s lO^d. The Australian flour and wheat which are now coming into Auckland have not so far affected the local prices. A sample of the imported wheat shown in Timaru yesterday was exceptionally good, much superior to the New Zealand grown cereal. ■ Five , thousand sacks of this particular wheat were landed in Auckland this week, but as wheat is now quoted in Australia at 3s lid it is not thought that it will be extensively ■ sent to New Zealand. There is still a lot of unthreshed wheat in South Canterbury.

For oats there is practically no inquiry, and very few lines are offering. Garton&' are worth Is 6d to Is 7d^ and Duns Is 6d to Is' 9d, according 'to quality, on trucks.;.. : '' '" The market for oatsheaf chaff is! slightly easier, good bright heavy stuff being''quoted to-day at 45s to 50s on trucks^ sacks extra. . ■•
