The Proprietors of the Provincial Newspapers ■ (those published outside the >i our, centres), of the Dominion have followed up a'motion of appreciation of the services'■■■' of Mi' R. B. ,BeJl. as ;a 'member of, and joint convener of, their Executive Committee, by presenting •him with a roller-top desk and other articles of a total of £25, as a wedding gift. Attached to the desk is a silver plate bearing the following inscription:—"Presented to Robert B. Bell as an affectionate and grateful tribute from the Provincial Newspaper Proprietors of New Zealand, on the occasion of his marriage, May 20, 1914."
On Tuesday a combined meeting of the Standing Committee and the Cathedral Chr.pLor was held for the nomination- to iho Bishops of' a priest of the Diocese for appointment to an honorary canonry, : vacant by the consecration of the Roy. W. W. Sedgwick to the bishopric, of Waiapu. Six clergymen were nominated, and a ballot was takeir, resulting in a majority for the Rev. Thomas Albert Hamilton., vicar of Fendalton, who was appointed by the Bishop as an honorary canon. The Rev. Canon T. A. Hamilton was also appointed Diocesan examiner for the year.
