INCREASES OF PAY,

WELLINGTON, March 16. A statement of the increase of pay to be given to members of the police force after April Ist next was made by the Hon. A. L. Herdman, Minister of Justice, to-day. Sub-inspectors, inspectors, and superintendents receive an increase of £20 per year, and all other ranks of the force one shilling per day; / In calculating weekly' wages, it should be remembered that the members of the force paid at per day are paid for seven clays in the week. The new scale of pay is:—Superintendents at Auckland and Wellington,' £460 to £520; superintendents at Cliristchurcli and Duiiedin, £460 to £490'; inspectors, £380 to . £4.40 ;. subinspectors, £350 to £360; senior sergeants, 14s 6d to 16s per clay; sergeants, 12s to 13s 6d ;■ constables under three years' service, 9s; three to six years, *9s 6cl; six to nine years, 10s; nine to 14 years, 10s 6d; 14 to 20 years, i lls 6d; chief detectives, 10s 6d to 17s 6d; detective-sergeants, los to 16s; detectives, lls Gd to 14s Cd; probationary constables, 7s.
