A DISPUTED LEASE.
SURRENDER ALLOWED CONDITIONALLY.
I At the meeting of the Ashbur- 1 ton Borough Council last evening, on the motion of the Mayor and the De-puty-Mayor, the resolution on the minute book debarring Councillor J. B. Christian from surrendering his Glasgow lease of T.S. 1261 was rescinded. The recommendations of the Reserve Committee were then read as follows: — "That the Council accepts Mr J. B. Christian's surrender of Glasgow lease of T.S. 1261, on the following conditions: (a) That he pay rent and rates of •■the" section up to the time of his asking to be allowed to withdraw his application for the lease; (b) that in addition to the abovementioned payments he pay one year's rent of the sec-| tion by way of compensation." ■> Cr. Fern man suggested that as the Council was very ""thin" that night,, the matter be held ofer. ' The Mayor ruled 1 ■'"'that the report would have to bo approved or rejected then and there. Cr. Hefi'ord moved tTh> adoption of the Reserve-; Commit lee's recommendations. ■Cr. Davidson seconded' the motion. Cr. Buchanan voiced Ins objections to the adoption of the report. The clauses of the, report were then separately adopted, ilind the report was afterwards agreed to as a 1 whole, there being no discussion.
