Chief Justice Parker, of Western Australia, has resigned, and Mr Justice McMillan has. been appointed as his successor.
Mv W. Nosworthy. M.P., arrived in Ashburton by this afteniooriV express from the north. Like all the members who have gone south,;.Mr Nosworthy stated the session was a strenuous and trying one, though he considered it most satisfactory.

To-day is the 50th anniversary of the, departure .'from London, by . the ship " Indian Empire," of the Gates family, of Ashburton. Mr and Mrs T. A. Gates have received several congratulatory ■ messages from different parts of tho Dominion.
As Mr Hunter Morris was the only candidate nominated for the vacancy on the Upper Ashburton Road Board caused by the death of the late Mr M. Stitt, he has. been declared duly elected. <■
