" The Man in the White Cloak " was the star film-at His Majesty's Theatre last evening. Lady Hamilton's daughter is in love with a'young doctor, but her mother, has beeii: reduced to poor circumstances and at the news that the old home is to b8 sold up she becomes dangerously ill. Her daughter's lover answers her call to the sick woman's bedside and while there she explains to him a legend of the house that one of their ancestors, a man in a white cloak, had hidden considerable money which would be found by the family in their hour of need. The doctor sleeps and an appaTition appears, and awakens and conducts him down a gloomy under ground passage, and just as he discovers the treasure he is seized by the indispensable villain, disabled, and left to die. He escapes and all e^.ds happily. /'The Orchid" is a detective story in which many people take part: there is little charm in the setting, lots of confusion in the picture, and the plot is altogether too thin. " Shootin^ the Rapids " is a coloured scenic not remarkable for its beauty, though it gives an idea of how the rapid's are navigated on the River Kekoko. "Sago Growing in Borneo " shows the production of sago from the time of the felling of the palm , the pith from the trunk is washed by means of bare-foot-ed niggers hopping up and down in the water in which it is placed ; probably the sago market will be dull for a time in Ashburton. _'' Under the Make-up '' is a dramatic idyl in which there is much sorrow and a deal of tragedy, but it has a happy ending. The latest "Path© Gazette" was'even more in-, teresting titan vrxw] an.l contained some fine scenes of tho most important happenings in the world. .Two good
