THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. ?
(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 15. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, resumed this morning. Social Service.
•The annual reports-of-the-Social Service Associations of Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin showed that there were 381 young people in the care of the Associations, 173 being in homes, 177 having been taken from the Juvenile Courts and placed under the care of agents. The total amount received during the year was £6721. The Association will benefit to the extent of £1000 as a result of a bequest.
Sabbath Schools. The examination committee reported that there had been a considerable in-* crease in the number of entrants for examinations, that the number of es-, says sent in was double that of the previous year. The presentation of banners and medals took place, the banner in the first division going to St. David's School, Auckland, that in the second division going to Totara Valley, School, Timaru.
Youth of the Church: - This committee reported that the work among the young people had been vigorously prosecuted, and in almost all sections distinct progress had been made. It was announced with regret that Rev. J. H. Jupp was retiring from the position of travelling secretary, at the end of. the year. The Rev. H. Davies and Nurse Milne" are maintained by the Bible Classes in the Chinese Canton Village Mission. A sum of £1012 had been raised by Bible Glasses for Foreign Missions, and over £1000 for other objects. Thenlnoir.nl Hall.
The report of the Theological Hall Committee was presented. Twenty-five students had been' taking the studies and,,six of, these had completed their course in the past year. . ■, . " V>. Maori Missions.
A report dealing with the . ■ general work of Ahe Maori Missions, the woi«k of the' Maori Girls'.School at Tuna- 1 kina, and the boys' farm at Manunui, was, adopted. ? ; ' " ,J' CHRISTCHURCH,' December 16, Miscellaneous. ;"-• The Rev. Alexander Dun was * ap-^ pointed Foreign Missions Secretary, with a seat on the committee and the Dunedin Presbytery. It was decided that a deputation be sent to visit China and Tndia. Ihe question of the personnel ot the deputation was referred back after discussion to the committee for a report at a future sederunt.
