POST OFFICE ROBBED.
MAIL-BAGS ABSTRACTED
(Per Press Association.)
TAUMARUNUI, December 14. A daring robbery,of mail matter took place in the Taumarunui Post Office during the early hours; of Friday nibrning. The .usual custom is-for the mail carrier to take the north-going mails to the 1*1.50 p.m. express and bring in the mails reaching Taumarunui from the south. Then, he goes off duty until 4 a.m., when the southward-bound mails are taken to the train and the incoming Auckland mails are brought in. When the carrier came on duty at 4 a.m. the office appeared to be all right, but on returning from taking the outward Wellington mails to the station he discovered that five out of six inward southern mail-bags were missing. The police were immediately communicated with, and they made a search, discovering the bags with the seals cut, lying in different parts of the town. A number of letters, including registered ones, had been opened, and any valuable contents had been abstracted. The circumstances point to a deliberately-planned robbery, which it is surmised tobok place between midnight and 4 a.m. \
