AMERICAN ATHLETES
Crack Hurdler Beaten
(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 13. In view of the visit of the American .team;of athletes to New Zealand, an athletic meeting arranged by the Amateur Athletic Clubs of Canterbury was held at Lancaster Park this afternoon, pX which-the Americans competed. The going was heavy, and the attendance of the public disappointing. ! The 'Americans made a fair showing, but were in most of the events too heavily handicapped. The principal feature of the day was a race between G. P. Keddell, New-. Zealand champion, and Templeton, the American crack, in their heat of the 120 Yards hurdles handicap. The New Zealand man got home by a bare margin. A 75 yards invitation race-between Templeton and Keddell was abandoned owing to Keddell being-unwell. During the afternoon exhibitions of javelin and. discus throwing and pole vaulting were. given- ; by the visitors. . ..' ■ :. .>
