SPECIAL MEETING OF BOARD.
SETTLEMENT OF ACCOUNTS ARRANGED. •*"-"'
A special meeting of the Ashburtori Hospital, and Charitable Aid jjoafd was held this morning. There "were pie- 1 [sent:— Messrs Hugo Friedlander, . 0 Reid, H. Davis, H. J. Harrison, J. Cairns, C. J. Harper, and W. J." Dickie, M.P. The meeting was called for the purpose of going into the question of the final payments in connection with the contract for the recent alterations and additions to the County 1 Hospital, some of tho amounts, connected with delay and interest, .being in dispute. The architect (Mr J. J. Collins) and tho contractor (Mr W. Reid) and his son (Mr A. Reid) were in i attendance. The chairman, suggested the advisability of the Board going into committee to discuss the various questions relating to the settlement of the accounts.
Mr Harper said that that would be the wisest course, and he moved in that direction. ' , >
Mr Cairns seconded the motion; ■. Mr Davis said 1 he was not particular one way or the other. However, itmight be best in the end, and it would enable members to express themselves more freely. Mr Reid said the>Board had, not gone into committee, on the last occasion, and he did* not think it should do so now.
On the motion' being put, it was carried with ono*! dissentient (Mr C. Reid). On resuming in open Board, the Chairman reported that it had been resolved "That the contractor be paid the sum of £46' in full satisfaction of the balance claimed for extras, etc." This was subsequently accepted by Mr Reid.
