A MINING TRAGEDY.

SEVEN MEN KILLED. (Received December 15, 8.50 a.m.) ' VIENNA, December 14. A cage in a mine at Era fell 950 foot seven men being killed.

AUCKLAND, December 15. Albert Victor Hare, a labourer, aged 26, committed suicide at Howick on; Saturday. After being refused a drink at' ■an hotel,; he went into , a stable and closed the door. The licensee found him sitting on a box, pointing a gun at his head. The'licensee.told him not to be silly. Hare pointed the ,'gun at the licensee, and the latter got out of danger. The wheel of the side-' car was broken, but the men on the| vehicle escaped with a severe shaking. , While two little boys were playing with' a lawn mower in Ash burton one day last- week one of the little chaps put a hand on the mower, and had the top of one finger taken off.
