THE SPECIAL CONSTABLES.

AUCKLAND, December 14.
Over 1000 young men, who acted as special constables during the strike, assembled in the Drill Hall for a final parade before being disbanded. The Mayor and some members of the Citizens' Defence Committee were present, and the former on bshalf of the city thanked the specials. He referred to the splendid services the men had rendered at the most critical time that had ever occurred in the history.of the city. In his opinion the Auckland foot specials were organised better than in any
other centre troubled with the strikeHe trusted the men would not tje.--wanted again, but he felt sure" that; if> they were they would offer with the same spontaneity as .they had six weeks ago. Mr Parr announced that, the ,Citizens' Committee intended to entertain the special constables at a smoke concert next Friday. ' The question of pay was mentioned by the Mayor, who said'that the rate had been left to the men themselves. It was'declared by the parade that 8«?----per day would be satisfactory.
