GOVERNMENT CONGRATULATED.
', ;^; r i MARTON, November 26. At the Rangitiki Council meeting..'today it was resolved "That this Council wishes to heartily congratulate the Government on the firmness and' tact displayed during the present 'serious outbreak of anarchy at the leading ports'of the Dominion, and trusts-that they will continue to exercise the same nice control until the country is again blessed with industrial peace." There was only one dissentient.
It.was also resolved, and carried unanimously, "That this Council wishes to protest in the strongest manner possible against Mr Tregear's action, as reported in the Press, in libelling those public-spirted men who, at great inconvenience and risk to themselves, went to Wellington to maintain law and order. We also consider that, under the circumstances, he is not a fit and proper person to hold a J.P.-ship, and that his'name should be struck off the list." . .'■■■-■ ■ ; Copies of the resolutions are to be forwarded to the Government.
