Local Bodies, Loans. I The Local Uodies Loan Bill was read. !a third time. Footwear Regulation. The Footwear Regulation Bill was read a second time. The Hon. J- K. Jenkinson asked the Minister to postpone the operations of the Bill for two or three months, to enable manufacturers to prepare for
it. The Hon. F. H. D. Bell promised consideration.
Post Office Savings Bank
On moving the second reading of the Post and Telegraph Act Amendment i Bill, the Hon. IT. H. D/Bell explained that the main effects of the Bill would i be to extend the limit upon which interest should bo paid to depositors in i the Savings Bank from' £600 to £1000, also to prohibit the erection without sanction of apparatus capable of transmitting or , receiving wireless telegraphy. The Hon. J. Dulhie opposed the raising of the limit to £1000. He said the money whs payable on demand, and it would be unsafo to have ( so many millions in such a position, because in the event of a European war breaking out a large proportion of the depositors would rush the bank and create a financial crisis. The Hon. F. H. D.' Bell explained that there would be'-tio run on the Post Office Savings Bank, because there would be no fear of, 1 its solvency.
The Bill was read a second time. Third Readings. | A number of Bills passed through. their committee and third reading] stages. The Council rose at 4.55 p.m.
