UPPER ASHBURTON ROAD BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Upper Ashburton lload Board was held yesterday. Present: Messrs C. J. Harper (chairman), J. Farrell, and J. Tucker. Aoologies for absence were received from Messrs A. Horsey, M. Stitt, and J. Allen. A letter forwarding the following resolution was received from the Ashburton County Council:—" That a letter be sent to the various local bodies concerned asking them to keep the approaches to the motor and stock bridges in order at their own expense. —Received, and it was resolved that tho request -be needed to. A ratepayer wrote drawing the Board's attention to burnt gorse sticks on roads. —The clerk was instructed to write to those concerned asking them to remove the obstructions. . .

Mr J. Johnson wrote asking if .he could lease the Board's reserve near Tinwald, along the Timai'u Track.—lt was agreed to reply to Mr Johnson stating that the Board regretted that it, could not see its way to lease tho reserve', as it had always been held for the convenience of settlers driving stock, as. an. accommodation paddock. The Department of Lands wrote notifying [the transfer of lease No. O.L. 165, part' Res. 2766, Block VII., Westerfield, from A. S. B. White to J. T. Hufchinsori.

The County Council's water ranger wrote stating that some of the fords in the Board's district required strengthening. —The Chairman stated that the matter was receiving .attention.

It was decided to hold the next meeting of. the Board at the. end ■ of. | January, owing to the December meeting falling in Christmas week. Smith to Woolly Bros., Lot 7, ILfighmor, 403 acres 1 rood 3 perches: froVn B. Anderson to Messrs Burns and Judd. R.S. 27094. 23897. 16125, etc., 331 acres'l rood 34 perches; from A. Bennett to E.
