area has been sown in the district this year, are doing really well.
Fruit trees have blossomod profusely this season, and a good "crop is assured if weather conditions prove favourable.
There has been a good lambing, and tailing operations are being pushed on. Very few cases have been heard of where j the percentages have been below 100, and there are many instances where they are much higher. A few areas, averaging between £0 i and 30 acres, have been put down in potatoes, and many smaller lots arc being put in. Only two farmers are sending cream to the factory. Miscellaneous. The Chertsey Shearing Shed Company has built an additional shed capable of holding another 500 sheep. The sheds will now accommodate 1000 sheep— practically one day's work for the six men engaged. The annual sale of work in connection with the. Chertsey branch -'of the Mothers' Union was held on Friday last. There was a large attendance, and during the afternoon Mrs Morton, of Christchurch, gave an address. The proceeds of the sale were considered satisfactory. The Chertsey School has been closed on account of many of the scholars: having contracted whooping cough,] which is very prevalent in the district. A team of card players representing Chertsey recently journeyed to Pendarves to play a match. The result was in favour of Chertsey. In a return game, Pendarves was again beaten. Chertsey also played a match with the Hakatere Lodge, 1.0.0.F.,~at Chertsey, on Thursday last. The visitors won by three games. ' '
