NO ) PANIC AMONG, THE CREW

The Carmania' "reports that the Volturno, was smoking on Sunday, but otherwise was in; good condition. ,
Batches of survivors have reached Havre, Rotterdam;. and Liverpool.
There, are various: theories regarding the origin of the fire.. Badke, a German, relates that; though smoking in the steerage was prohibited, a Russian emigrant was smoking; a.cigarette, and when a stewards appeared the man dropped the cigarette through a hole in: the floor amongst,the emigrants' baggage. Badte afterwards lifted the trapdoor and, finding th& compartment lafire, raised, th& alarm.
