There were hysterical scenes at Bow Baths, women screaming for protection while others hurled chairs at the police and dropped benches on their ;''heads from the gallery. The fight lasted a considerable time and police reinforcements were needed to control the situation. Miss Sylvia Pankhurst was arrested and placed in a taxi-cab. The crowd surrounded the cab in an endeavour to effect a rescue, and the police had to use their batons. Miss Pankhurst escaped in the melee.
