HAYWARD'S PICTURES

The pictures shown at His Majesty's Theatre last evening were well up to the high standard set by the Proprietary The programme ■...submit ted contained an interesting^ story of the world's doings in the "Warwick Chronicle" series, and also a series of New Zealand photographs of events m' Auckland. The piece de resistance was a fine film depicting Wilkie Collins s novel "The Dead Secret," which lends itself excellently to the art of the trick photographer, for two of the principal characters (mother and daughter) are j each played by the same actress, although on several occasions they meet on the stage. The play is powerfully acted and. is full of thrilling interest. Another picture of outstanding merit is I " Her Mother's Oath," in which the actress who takes the name part displays an extraordinary command ot facial expression. "Some Fools There Were" is a very mirth-provoking picture,'in which the principal character _a young lady—arrives at a pleasure resort and allows herself to be made love to by a group of young men, each of whom she snapshots, m some ridiculous attitude. It eventually turns out, much to the'victims' disgust, that she is an authoress in search of copy for her new novel. The other supporting pictures are excellent, and the programme will be shown .again this even-
