EDUCATION BOARD'S TRIBUTE.
"Probably no worthier colonist ever graced New Zealand," said Mr T. W. Adams, chairman of the North Canterbury Education Board, in referring to the late Sir William Russell yesterday morning. Mr Adams moved—" That this Board places on record its appreciation of the long and valuable services rendered by the late Sir William Russell, and its feeling that the country has sustained a very great loss in his death." , _ Mr J. Studholme said that he had enjoyed the great privilege of personal acquaintance with Sir William Russell. Nobody who did know the late statesman could fail to get a truer conception of the meaning of the word gentleman. . Mr W H. Collins said that Sir William, Russell had been a .courteous, kindly gentleman, always willing to do
anything in lids power in the service of tlie country. The motion was carried, the members standing.
