It is a significant fact, and one which goes to show the appalling condition of the teeth of the New Zealand children, that of the 260 patients' who have been examined since the dental department was opened at Chirstchurch Hospital five months ago, only one child has been found to have a perfectly sound set of teetli, says the dental surgeon of the Ohristchurch Hospital.

A deputation consisting of Mrs Kaye and Mrs Tomlinson, representing the Women's Societies of Christchurch, waited on the Mayor yesterday to proffer a request that in the new electric lighting scheme for the city provision should be made for illuminating the river banks at night to make those banks and the river more attractive to the citizens, and for other reasons. Mr Holland promised to give the matter consideration, and to let the deputation know later whether it was possible, to give effect to the request.
