RAIN IN WELLINGTON.

WELLINGTON', August 23. ' At noon steady rain began, and the prospects point to a wet afternoon for the football match between Wellington and Taranaki.
The Government Meteorologist's forecast at 9 a.m. to-day was as follows: — Indications " for variable northerly breezes, changing to southerly, with cold and damp 'weather; rain probable, with snow in high country. Glass fall, kut rise after 16 hours.
