There has .been groat industrial unrest in Germany during the past year. The number of strikes is officially given as 2917, involving 325,253 persons, 10 per ce"nt. of whom were women. The Auckland correspondent' of the "Otago Daily Times"' reports that-boarding-housekeepers and hotel proprietors in Auckland, with keen forej sight, are already preparing fen* year's exhibition, and- it is'probable that several very extensive addition:; to buildings will be made in order to cope with the rush of visitors which the exhibition is sure to bring to the city. Already plans are in preparation for adding twenty rooms to a largo boarding-house in Albert Street, whileanother in Symonds Street is making arrangements for the addition of thirty-two rooms. Various hotels in the city will also be renovated and added to for the exhibition season.
