BURGLARS AT WORK.
IN ASH3URTON DISTRICT. | TWO HOUSES ENTERED. The police received word on Monday that the premises of Mr T. B. Gibbs, general storekeeper, Hinds, had been broken -into'late on Sunday night or Monday morning. The 'window of the, front door was broken..by which.means the thief secured -an entrance. A number of small things were taken, including some tobacco, but the ml value of the stolen -articles.is not yet known. The police are prosecuting searching enquiries into the matter, hut so far have not been' successful m i discovering a clue. , ■ , I Word was alsoreosived that premises .1 a t .Riverside had been, entered, presum- j ably for the purpose-of/theft, : about one o'clock on Sunday morning. Two i girls, sleeping together, were rudely awakened from their peaceful slumbers by a man appearing in their room. They commenced to scream, and their (•ries aroused the other occupants of the house. A search was made for the intruder, who apparently had made a very rapid exit. The owner whilst engaged in the search in the dark walked into a- door, and sustained a painful blow on his nose. Nothing is reported to bo missing. ,
